Making the decision to place your parrot is not an easy one and we understand that. If your bird should be accepted into our facility, we will work with you to make the transition as stress free as possible for you and your companion parrot.
Do you really want to give up your parrot?
When you reach out to us inquiring about placement, our first question to you is going to be Why do you feel you need to place your parrot? In most cases our second question to you will be How can we help you to keep your parrot in your home?
There are many reasons people consider placing their bird. In most cases people feel it would be in the birds best interest. If you do not want to give up your bird but feel it would be the best thing for him/her, talk to us about your circumstances. In most cases we can help to resolve the issue to allow you to keep your bird with you for as long as possible. Some of the options include:
- Veterinary Assistance
- Pet Food Assistance
- Weekly visits to your home for thorough cage cleaning assistance
- Behavior Modification Assistance
- Short or Long Term Boarding Solutions
If you are committed to keeping your feathered friend, we are committed to working to make that happen. Talk to us!
If placement is your choice and we have the vacancy to accept your bird, we will ask you to schedule a time to visit the sanctuary. You will tour the facility if you haven't already done so and we will discuss your placement options.
Sanctuary vs Adoption
While we prefer to evaluate your bird to determine if adoption or sanctuary would be the best option, you also get a vote. Some owners are concerned about the possibility of their parrot being bounced from home to home and prefer the security of a sanctuary. Other owners would prefer their parrot find a wonderful home and family to grow with.
Ziggy's Haven requests a minimum donation of $5000.00 should you request your bird to remain a permanent resident of the sanctuary. He/she will receive a full veterinary exam and be quarantined for up to 45 days. Following quarantine, your bird will slowly be acclimated to the outdoor weather. Once acclimated, he/she will be introduced to an aviary where he will live out his life with other birds of that species. We welcome and encourage you to visit your bird as often as you'd like.
Ziggy's Haven requests a minimum donation of $200.00 upon acceptance of your parrot. He/she will receive a full veterinary exam and be placed in quarantine for up to 45 days. Following quarantine, he will be transferred to the adoption center where he/she will have an opportunity to meet our many volunteers and visitors while we find the family that is right for him/her! Please visit our Adoption page for our adoption policies. Our policies are in place to protect the birds best interest.
